In order to define the problems we address in this thesis, this chapter reviews the state-of-the-art in P2P recommendation systems. First, we describe centralized recommendation systems, their approaches, and limitations. Second, we discuss P2P systems as an alternative, scalable solution for decentralized recommendation systems, and extract their requirements. Finally, we evaluate the existing P2P content management systems and P2P prediction systems.
